The Rotary Club of Cairns is the original Rotary Club in Cairns, established in February 1930.

Our club is comprised of men and women of all ages from varied business/professional backgrounds who share a passion for serving our community.

While you are here, you will see that we have many opportunities to get involved in our community projects, with the added benefit of networking and forming friendships with club members.

Whilst we embrace the traditional values of Rotary, we are also are an innovative club. Rotary is a bit like joining a gym – it’s your choice as to how much you want to be involved. But be warned, it’s easy to get hooked on helping others and having fun at the same time!

Rotary Club of Cairns is now 94 Years Old

The first recorded meeting of the Cairns Rotary Club was held at the Strand Hotel on Thursday 8th September 1929. The site where the

Pacific International Hotel sits today.

At a Club meeting held on 30th April 1930, it was decided to alter the meetings from luncheon to evenings. To this day The Rotary Club of Cairns carries that tradition of evening meetings.

Club Past President Richard Ireland’s grandfather Francis Ireland’s application for membership with the classification of Automobile Retailing

was received on 7th February, 1938. For the past 84 years

a member of the Ireland family.

has been a member of the Rotary Club of Cairns.

In 1946 The Rotary Club of Cairns purchased a property

in Martyn Street that was to be converted into a

Youth Centre. The Rotary Club of Cairns through its ongoing

support of the Quigly Street shelter maintains a

relationship with the Martyn Street site to this day.

Since 1929 The Rotary Club of Cairns has had many dedicated members who have held multiple positions that has enabled the Club to prosper in the good and extremely difficult times, no more than over the past two years. To those members past and present thank you for your support and dedication not only to our club but also to Rotary International.
